I saw that show. I got grounded for weeks for going.

As Flash got onto the stage he knocked his record box over and all the records rolled out. The Furious Five chased them around the stage.

    THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT!

  4. David Amor says:

Good to hear the non-synthed version of Square Dance Rap at about 12:00 in the Sir Mix a Lot set. Just as I remember it.

  5. Funny story indeed David!

Thanks for sharing your old school experience!

  6. FAMILYQUEST says:

HAS ANYONE GOT ANY FOOTAGE OF UK FRESH, I WAS THE FEMALE MEMBER OF FAMILY QUEST THE ONLY UK PERFORMERS IN THE SHOW BUT NONE OF US HAVE ANYTHING ON FILM …I HAVE NEVER SEEN OUR PERFORMANCE THERE……I READ IN ONE OF THE COMMENTS THAT GRANDMASTER THREW HIS RECORD BOX ON THE FLOOR AND WAS CHASED ROUND BY THE FURIUOS FIVE…BUT WHAT REALLY HAPPENED WAS LOVEBUGSTARSKI REMEMBER HIM? HE WAS PISSED BECAUSE HE THOUGHT HE SHOULD HAVE GONE ON AFTER FLASH HE THOUGHT HE WAS BIGGER THAN FLASH WAS AT THAT TIME , SO AT THE END OF HIS PERFORMANCE JUS AS FLASH AND 5 WERE COMING ON STAGE HE THREW HIS MIC DOWN LIKE A BABY THROWING A DUMMY OUT OF A PRAM AND STOMPED OFF STAGE ….WELL THATS THE WAY I REMEMBER IT

  7. rob evs says:

I remember going at the age of 14 from llangollen in wales to this my first ever gig….(massive capt rock fan). But capt rock was only on in the eve…….the gods were shining down on me and as roxanne shante had flu capt rock took her place……magic!!!!
Also remember luvbug going off stage as his wife had just given birth (inconsiderate cow!!!) lol. so we had to wait 30 mins before he came back on
my email is ukfresh@hotmail.com….now thats dedication.
Would love to hear from you miss family quest!!!!!!

Well having been a massive fan of the electro lp’s. I bought i think electro 11 whaich had the application form for tickets…….for 10.50 (imagine a price like that now) i had a good view (halfway back in lower wings).
The drive from north wales took 5 hours then…lol).
I still to this day remember standing outside listening to the bass rumbles.
I also remember getting my program and taking a seat next to 3 lads who did the graffitti for breakdance fever lp (think they came from leciester/coventry way)…anyway…….
This was the best concert i have ever been to. Props out to captain rock and the event organisers…because shante never showed and instead of just putting the next act on captain rock decided to go on………shit the place went wild, certainly got the biggest cheer that i heard that afternoon.
Hightlights for me: capt rock, ny city breakers and london all star breakers having a barny on stage, flash, bambaataa, hasim, etc etc
only a few low points this being luvbug starski taking time out to chat to his wife (she had just given birth) and dj cheese not wanting to sign autographs……biggest loss….deffo seeing captain rock but just missing getting his autograph.
I managed to get manax!!!!!! (not sure who he is but a load of people queueing to get his…) DJ willy Will (capt rock crew), steady b and sir mix alot.
The afternoon gig ran over by 45 mins and was well worth it.
Mr majestic and his breaking skills at the back of the arena……..ohhh the memories……wish it was all happening again tomorrow

Just find this site by chance. I was at UK FRESH 86 in fact i did the graffiti canvases for the event and saw the whole show from the top of the speaker on the right side of the stage i climb up and stayed there till the end of the show. Then went backstage and took loads of pictures. What a great event.
Morgan Khan tried to do the same thing again a few years ago (i designed the artwork for the event) but in the final few days people started to pull out so they could small events in new york e.g Doug E Fresh. Oh well i still got paid for what
    its worth.

Hi all, well 22 years ago i was working for Streetsounds/Streetwave and as you say what a day. I met all my idols back stage but was getting paid to live my dream. I have met many great people in my time but that whole show clearly sticks in my mind. I think if i had to help organise another show like that now, it would kill me. But at 42 i’m still spinning my tunes and remixing :)

I was at the legendary afternoon show in Wembley , Saturday 19th July 1986. My first concert at the age of 16 and it still gives me goosebumps reminiscing about those times. The whole atmosphere was phenomenal, even travelling the J-Line with other B-Boy crews getting hyped. Even standing outside waiting to get in, you could feel the boom of the sound checks, while a crew in line in front of me proceeded to rap all the lyrics from “Ultimate Live” by the Ultimate 3 MC’s – “Ultimate, ultimate, let me hear you say Ultimate, Ultimate!” followed by “What The Party Needs” by the Point Blank MC’s.

4.5 hours of pure hip hop culture was witnessed by a packed crowd in Wembley Arena. I still treasure the original programme and the 2 TDK AD90′s of the concert (usual radio stuff went onto TDK D90, special stuff onto AD or ADX90 if I could afford it!) recorded off Capital Radio during August or September of 1986.

I’d like to hear Lovebug Starski’s side of the story of when he chucked his mic down. That was a bizarre moment and he sounded real emotional at the time.

Afrika Bambaataa and the Soul Sonic Force tore the roof down. It was live big beat hip hop with keyboards, guitars and drums and mics, raw scratching with mostly the Rockit stab, no tape recording playing backing tracks (this was before the time of DAT tapes as well). Pure stage show. My memories were of the relentless drumming not missing a beat and it seemed to go continuously for an hour – it was a live mix with a band – boombastic!

Any videos of the event would be priceless. I returned to Wembley Arena in 1990 for the DMC Mixing Championships (Germany was the Winner), Mantronix performed a set (post MC Tee), but it did not reach the heights of UK Fresh ’86 – neither has anything else since.

It’s a great shame that the “Rock The Bells” tours of previous years and for 2008 are not coming over to this side of the pond because that would have been some kind of revival of the old fresh fest tours.

I went to the evning show and remember it like yesterday. I went with Silver Bullet (before he was making records) and after the show he was intent on getting backstage and meeting Bambaataa and I was hesitant coz my dad drove us and he was waiting for us, but I went along and first we went to the stage and Cheese was up for giving us an autograph, but we didn’t have a pen and nor did he so we didn’t get it. We then dodged security and got round the back.

Out there was Bambaata and bullet got his autograph and I missed out as Bam said that was the last one he was signing, but I got Mr Biggs autograph. We met Just-Ice, DMX, WCWC with the names emboidered on their jackets (a yound Dr Dre!), Hardrock soul movement, then Mantronix came out of the exit and got a bit modded by press people. There was a coach and on it was Real Roxanne and a few others, it was pretty surreal coz I was 13 and these were my idols and it was the first Hip Hop show I’d been to. My dad was furious we’d been about an hour backstage. When I ask him now what he remembers of the show he says he didn’t enjoy it at all, he spent the whole show sitting reading a book, he wasn’t impressed (he would have been about the age I am now).

I remember getting lost backstage when Real Rox was on and someone tring to sell me weed. I also remember Aleem getting a luke warm reception and people getting drinks/food and going to the toilet when they came on which was a bit sad as I liked them!

I also went to that DMC final in 1990 with mantronix playing, but no, it wasn’t the same.
