Sam Cooke – A Change Is Gonna Come / Ghostface Killah – The Soul Controller

Science dropped by Martini & Jopparelli. Jul-26-2007

Sam Cooke and Muhammad Ali……..

Sam Cooke (1931-1964) has been called “The king of Soul” by many. It could be, for sure. The only artist who can take him away from the throne is the great Otis Redding. This is my opinion anyway, and I am sure many of you have a different one.

When it comes a song like this one it’s even difficult to find a right words to express how beautiful it is.

This song is simply perfect, is a quintessence of what I consider Soul music. A sweet, melancholic, melodic, distressing, harrowing masterpiece. You can listen to any kind of music (like we do) but no matter what sound you are into, there are some tracks that are not contestable! What I am trying to say is that this song is universal and timeless.

If you want to know more about this track check the whole story on Wikipedia. The song was memorably featured in Spike Lee’s film Malcom X and was sampled by RZA in the Soul Controller.

This was the last Wu album in my opinion and the last I have bought (shit I have also Wu Tang Forever, if you make a good offer I can ship it to you :) )

(This track was removed in later releases of the album due to the sample it contained.)

Somebody claim that the song synthesizes Bach (a Brandenburg concerto). Is it true? Is there anybody who can give more info about that? Thanks in advance.

    Yep Marty that’s Bach!
I once accidentally listened to it on the radio and immediately recognized Soul Controller… Rza just sampled 4 bars, no effects and no rearranging…
I’ll try to find more detailed info.
