Ahmet Güneş’s Summer 2011 Selection

Being a huge fan of turkish funk music, I had a pleasure to know (through the web) Ahmet Gunes, a fine selector from Turkey (Istanbul is one of the most beautiful city I have ever seen, by the way). Since his selections are pretty much different from what we usually post and suggest here, I decided to ask him to give his contribution with some fresh music of his own. Said that, it’s with a great gloat that I introduce this smooth and easy summer mix. Just chill and relax with Ahmet Gunes!

Some info about him:

In 1999-2000 he had his first radio show on Radyo Bogazici (Istanbul’s College Radio). He did interviews till 2002 that were released on Roll Mag (Turkey’s Main Independent Magazine-At That Time). Since 2001, he has been sharing his taste of music on Acik Radyo (Istanbul’s Independent Radio) every week. (Lovaj: Every Saturday 24-01 local). Since 2008, he has had the yearly two hours radio show on Big Chill Radio.

He has different venue experiences as he played in UK at the Big Chill Festival and at the Big Chill Bar in London. He also played in Austria, Hungary, Netherlands, Slovenia and of course in Turkey. He had a chance to do the warm up for big names as Dj Vladim, Jon Kennedy, Belleruche, Incognito, Quantic Soul Orchestra, Blend aka Mishkin just to name a few. He had some of them and others, like Nostalgia 77, on his radio show and he has interviewed well known artists such as Aphex Twin and Roni Size among others. Ahmet Gunes: For Summer 2011 I had the chance to share my – tiny – musical selections on festivals like Sunsplash/Turkey, Soundwave/Croatia & Big Chill/UK. None of them were recorded so I decided to make a mix that i hope includes more than 80% of my set at Mr Scruff’s Tea Tent/2011. Here it is…
