Grievous Angel: Fusion Dub. A mix of Miles Davis-inspired jazz, funk and soul, in dub!

Science dropped by Martini & Jopparelli. Mar-24-2013

REPOST 2013, original post 2008: this is one of mr.Martini’s favourite mixes ever, it’s a really inspiring one. Therefore while restoring the pics we decided to re up it to our mixcloud, add a tracklist and update the download link.

Damn, in the last period I am incredibly busy and I have no time to do anything. Although I want to spend a couple of minutes to suggest you a terrific mix from Grievous Angel. This work is pretty close to perfection in my opinion. The first time I listened to it was more than one year ago (if I recall correctly) and believe me, I was utterly amazed. Now it’s time to pay my tribute.

First of all, you have to read HERE about the idea behind the mix (“a voyage into Miles – in dub”), then, when you have done with that, you should be ready for this trippy journey…

“So it was that when I was asked to do a solo outing in the brilliant Blogariddims series, I almost immediately decided to go on a voyage into Miles – in dub. I was going to include a lot of other fusion artists, but not much that I have in that genre really made the grade, so instead I threw in some of the soul and funk that influenced Miles in this period. And naturally, I used as my raw material much of Bill Laswell’s fabulous Panthalassa CD, which adds a layer of dub and re-edits to Miles’ originals. I simply re-edited and re-dubbed what Laswell did. All in all it’s an appropriate way for Blogariddims series to greet Beltane. I hope you enjoy it.”
