It’s Summer! Major Lazer Essential Mix

Let’s keep the sunny mood! Major Lazer is this summer’s freshest album. Veteran producers Diplo and Switch put toghether the perfect combination of jamaican grooves and modern electronic music. You got dubplates, electro, booty bass, dubstep, and all that kind of syncopated beats we loooove.
Now, I’m not sayin I like 100% of the beats in this set. But I love the attitude, that party groove bonanza. A huge dancehall-based mash-up that accomplishes the difficult task of making me nod my head to some cheesy dance tunes from the 90s , like “King of My Castle” and “All that she wants”, remember those? Diplo turns even Black Eyed Peas’ “Boom Boom” into a decent tune. That’s incredible to me.
The second hour is Switch’s turn – he plays harder, starting with a sick dubstep tune that I hope will be released soon: it’s ‘Mash Up De Place’, at 63’45″ : really a monster one. BIG BIG tune! The “Hold the Line” remix he plays at 79″ is also an highlight, dont miss it.
This Essential Mix is a great demonstration of eclecticism and dancefloor knowledge. It’s not easy to mix Jamaican music with other stuff without sounding wack. Try it with your cracked Ableton copy, I challenge you. Playing from Barrington Levy to Bjork, Martyn, Mr.Oizo, Nirvana and goin back to King Jammy with an electro bassline is not simple. Major Lazer always delivers. So grab your lemonade, invite your friends and start dancin.
