Let’s start with a simple fact: Slick Rick is one of my favourite. Dana Dane is his “twin”. I mean, they got the same style, the same flow, the same accent (English wanna be
), they went to the same high school and they used to hang out together. Yeah, you got it, they also have been part of the same crew, the Kangol Crew. I like Slick, I like Dana. Simple like that!
Slick Rick about the Kangol period: I was in a crew called the Kangol Crew. We weren’t a real crew. We wore blazers and Kangols that matched. Like green, purple, yellow. Little stuff to make ourselves known. Only me and Dana (Dana Dane) tried to do it.
I really miss positive rappers like Dana Dane. Have a look at this video, he doesn’t act like a gangsta, he doesn’t act like a clown, he doesn’t act like a millionaire…he is just a musician telling how he works. Like he says, just regular. Without taking himself too seriously. This is the way it should be because I am a grown up person and I can’t stand clown rappers anymore.
Two tracks (from the album Dana Dane with fame 1987) and a couple of breaks:
A classic break (one day I will do a post on this tune):
The Honey Drippers -- Impeach the president / Dana Dane -- Dana Dane with fame
and….

actually slick rick is english…trying to do an american accent…
cazzo non sapevo che slick rick fosse inglese…ora mi spiego la maglietta che ho visto a brighton! non l’avevo capita del tutto…
bella presa, ho visto foto di brighton: fantastiche! ringrazia estelle per la macchina…
Right, he moved to USA when he was 10 years old.
Anyhow, he played a lot with his accent.
Anyhow, he played a lot with his accent.
… And he is one of the best that ever did it.
Right Antonio, Slick is superb!
dana + brick = perfect
Hey Cedric How are you doing?

Dana & Brick is the perfect match!
