First time i heard about this mix It was back in 1999. I was working as a dishwasher in Ramsgate, south of London, close to Dover. It was party time as I was in a college doing crazy night all the time. It was broadcasted by Tim Westwood on Radio 1. Back in the days his show was amazing, probably the best mainstream Rap show in Europe. Anyway, I used to spend my time recording his program while I was warming up with some drinks on Friday and Saturday night. One night Tim just put this mix (just the part 1) as he was waiting for a guest who was late. It was 8 years ago and I was not that used to this kind of crazy mix, so I was like shit!!!!! I still have this mix on tape and it brings back to me a lot of good memories.
Put more soup and wash up your dishes with Dj Riz Live from Brooklyn
A personal announcement:
One night, to celebrate Biggie, Westwood played a registration of a Bad Boys concert done in London few years before. I do not find this tape anymore. If anybody from UK has this registration please let me know. I can’t believe I lost a tape with a Biggie’s concert
marty i still have lots of tapes…can u manage to put them on a cd?
yes, i can do that, but it takes ages as you have to run the tape at his speed and wait to turn the side (like we used to do, Old School style, you know what i mean). I should do that even with mine but i never find the time. Too lazy.
aight i got u linked up.. do the same
In 1999 I was doing my PhD in Southampton, and I used to listen to Tim Westwood’s show as well. Back then it was pretty good, although Tim’s americanised slang was pretty annoying…
By 2001, the show was shit. A lot of crap artists and shit music… sad.
To think he used to be really good!
Does anyone have a track list? in particular, I am looking to find out who does this song?
Vol 2 Side B #31
Thanks.

This is pretty hard to do (in the bargain it takes a lot of time and i’m quiet busy at the moment) because he cuts the tracks every 30 seconds…

oh shit @ 05:45 -> 06.32!
man this is why i hate / love the internet and the world of the blogger
first of all i have to say dj riz is my favorite dj, he’s the king of mixtapes, seemles well planned mixes and razor sharp cuts.
its great to see these old rare tapes appearing since a lot of my copies have been ruined or thrown out… or jus not digitized yet. i actually really need to get the mixtape he released in 1998 but i cant remember the name (it had new tracks from late 1998 and it has the “what’s your name… d…j… riz…. spell it” intro
anyway my grievance is that back in the days these tapes used to inspire people to go out and find the songs them self…. now a bunch of geeks just sit and type it all on an internet forum.
i think it spoils the fun of it, it’s lazy… and makes room for people to fake their way to the top (like people who call their selves djs but will jackl this playlist and play it out like they found the records, bought them and put it together)
but i’m old skool fool who learnt by the old skool rules…. maybe hoping people would adhere to the same principals is expecting too much!
I understand your point, harry. You’re right in a way, nowadays it’s easier to fake.
But If you think about it, they said the same thing when the “Ultimate Breaks And Beats” collection came out! Producers and DJs were upset with their secret records being revealed!
I think it’s a natural process after all, “secrets” must come to light sooner or later.
But at the end of the day, even in the internet era, i think one needs to be gifted to stand out of the crowd as a dj, producer or whatever. You don’t become DJ Premier or DJ Riz by just downloading a couple of files!
Thanx for stopping by, appreciate you dropped a comment on this matter.
peace
I don’t get your point Harry…
Firstly – what is love or hate? Your reading a blog and have felt it’s necessary to go the lengths to reply on a given subject, so I’m guessing it’s probably more love than hate.
Your grievance is you don’t like people knowing what’s on a mix tape, well I’m sorry thats just laughable. If you listen to a mixtape and like it enough to enquire what the tracks are then your going to find them, it’s just a matter of time.
Since January of 2008 I have been trying to find every track used on the mix – I’ve heard them played on the radio, in clubs, I’ve found out from talking to record store owners and Riz fans… and I’m still not there yet.
Had someone else already done it – I would have been hugely thankful and found the records and enjoyed listening to them, someone hasn’t and so I’m going to. The notion that these lists are just generated by ‘geeks’ (by geeks I guess you mean people who have a inspired love of soul/funk/jazz) on the internet is just painfully naive.
Old school – Maybe
Fool… without a doubt…
For those of you who are ‘keeping it real’… (which probably means your a childish hypocrite) well – you’ll be keeping it real for a really long time if the only way you find the music you want is by playing every record in a store of millions.
For those who love it, and will find what they want by any means necessary – feel free to contribute.

Damn, thank you bro for taking the time to lay down most of the names of this cd! I have been looking for that joint by Pleasure called “thoughts of old flames” since the 80′s… could not remember the name though! I can honestly say that I have only heard that song once or twice on the radio since then…. Once again, THANK YOU!
